Happy New Year!
By Jason Williscroft @ 1:47 PM :: 347 Views :: 1 Comments :: Article Rating :: Military, Politics, Breaking News, Jason G. Williscroft

2008 is going to be a hell of a good year. Let's see...

  • The most recent national unemployment rate (November) is 4.7%. A quick back-of-the-envelope puts that at about the bottom 28th percentile for the past 60 years, and the bottom 16th percentile in my lifetime. As a fellow who'll be looking for a job as of 15 January, I can live with that.
  • I just learned that Multiple Sclerosis is now generally controllable. So are a number of other (formerly) dread diseases. Stupidity is a holdout, but then it probably doesn't have a technological solution anyway.
  • Baghdad has now become so dangerous that citizens are planning New Year parties. And did you notice the masthead? If Al Reuters says so, it must be true!
  • The Presidential race is in full swing, and Republicans appear to be suffering from something of an embarrassment of riches. We all have our favorites, of course... but, with the possible exception of John McCain, is there really a bad option on the table?
  • Possibly as a result of anthropogenic climate change, it appears to be raining pretty girls in Chicago.

Can't forget the best part...

See, despite all the lies promulgated by the Left's propaganda machine, all the tiresome caterwauling and tooth-gnashing of "expert" pundits who wouldn't know a well-executed military operation if it crawled into bed with them... all the unapologetic, unremarked treason on the part of our duly elected representatives; the cynical, deliberate brainwashing of our youngest generation by the "educators" to whom we entrust their care... in spite of ALL of this, there are still millions of Americans, young and old, who so value the benefits of liberty and self-determination represented by our beloved flag that they are willing to leave home and hearth for years on end and broil, freeze, bleed, and sometimes spend their last breath in her defense.

To those who are coming home this year: G-d bless you, my brothers and sisters. You did well, and we love you for it.

To those who remain abroad: G-d bless YOU, my shipmates! You know the value of the work you do. Keep the faith, hold the line, and you'll be home soon.

Finally, to those who will never come home... Every time an American flag is unfurled, we will be reminded of the blood you spilled on our behalf. Your memory is our most sacred national treasure. We will repay our debt to you in the only way that matters: by exercising the liberties you and your loved ones purchased at such dear cost, by keeping your faith, by forcing our leaders to acknowledge the value of your gift by NEVER RETURNING AN INCH OF THE GROUND YOU BOUGHT TO THE ENEMY!

So: G-d bless you most of all, our fallen heroes. For you have surely blessed us.

Happy New Year!
